A Quick Introduction to Kief
Kief is a sticky, often crystal-like powder produced by the resinous glands of the Cannabis plant. These are naturally occurring and are often visible on the surface of C annabis flower, and in fact, is the THC-Rich part of the plant. It is cultivated by sifting the Kief from the flower, and is often sifted through increasingly fine meshes to screen more plant material from the resinous crystal. Consequently, the lighter the color of the kief, the more finely it has been sifted, and therefore, purer it is. Because Kief requires simple mechanical processing rather than chemical processing, Kief is prized by many users as an affordable and solventless concentrate option.
Kief can be used by itself, but can easily be drawn through your smoking piece when used alone, and thus is not recommended.
One great way to use Kief is to sprinkle it on top of a bowl of flower, often referred to as a “Crown.” It is recommended that you light the bowl carefully, and only in quadrants, a practice known as “Cornering” in order to enjoy multiple Kief-topped hits.
Another common choice is to dust the broken-up flower with Kief before rolling it up into a joint or packing a cone.
Kief can also be additionally processed into Hash or be utilized in Cannabis cooking, but both are considerably more complicated and would be best pursued with your own research.
